Table for One
Jeffrey Gordon Mentored by Matthew Schwartz LHS Jazz Ensemble "Table for One" is a jazz composition that draws influence from modern jazz composers such as Bob Brookmeyer, Kenny Wheeler, and Maria Schneider. While "Table for One" began as a much more somber waltz for small jazz combo, it has since morphed into a much more powerful big band chart. Maybe the name doesn't suit the tune so well anymore, but o well - it's copyrighted. |

Shimmer
Nicholas DesRoches Mentored by Spencer Gurley-Green Violin - Julia Kan Viola - Michael Tu Cello - Vincent Song Bass - Matan Gans Piano - Nicholas DesRoches "Shimmer" is a piece for piano and strings inspired by composers from various era like Chopin, Debussy, and Agnes Obel, as well as other genres including jazz. I have been composing various types of electronic music for years, but am now starting to move into a more acoustic direction, utilizing physical instruments rather than solely piano and synths. "Shimmer" was originally a piano-centric electronic piece, but I found myself adding more "real" instruments to it, and it evolved into its current form. |

Cotton Candy
Samuel Pak Mentored by Duncan Reehl Inspired by the "kawaii future bass" movement that has taken its roots on the internet, I created cotton candy to take a bright, top heavy approach to the video game/anime driven genre. I hope that the playful use of video game and anime samples as well as the jumpy harmonies makes someone smile. |

"Edward Hopper" from The Art of the Blues Suite
Jeffrey Leonard Tenor - Jeffrey Leonard Trumpet - Josh Gilbert Alto Saxophone - Mattew Shwartz Guitar - Jeffrey Gordon Bass - Noah Harrington Drums - Nico Daglio Fine Piano - Eugene Kim I became interested in art/music connections and envisioned a piece that took terms that are used in visual arts, and the artists who are foremost practitioners of these styles, and create a musical work based around these translated terms, using the fundamental jazz form of the blues. The result is a 3-movement suit called The Art of the Blues Suite and the three movements are simply the names of the artists that represent each style. This movement reflects the artistic concept of "line" as through its musical equivalent of "melody." |
